Can I get a Texas drivers license if I am only in Texas for the summer?

My old I.D. is torn so I run into problems when I present it. I can't go back to Mississippi on a weekday because of my job and I would really like to solve this problem. Is it worth the try? I'm living in Texas so I'm not sure what the problem would be.
