Needle on sewing machine won't move?

I have a computerized sewing machine, and it was working perfectly. I took it out to try and teach my eldest daughter to sew, only to find that the needle won't move when I press on the foot pedal. It does move when I use the handwheel. I have tried rethreading it but still nothing. PLEASE HELP!!!! >.<
