What is appropriate punishment for a fairly independant 17 yr old?
This may sound petty..but my 17 year old daughter has become independant (job, bought own car, etc) and has suddenly thinks she knows it all now that she is practically an adult. It is the stupidist thing but we bought this high end dryer. We are a working middle class with 5 kids so I neeeded a high quality dryer and paid a lot for it. It has all this computerized stuff and she is constantly messing with it to "fluff" her jeans or is handwashing her work uniform and drying it last minute, whatever. She'll stop my loads to do her thing, then put mine back in. I have told her over and over to stop it, enough, but she keeps doing this. It is driving me nuts. We are already noticing the dryer isn't quite sensing when stuff is dry anymore and is stopping before our loads are fully dry. It makes me so mad, but she sees it as silly, thinks dryers are for drying clothes. She is a very good and hardworking kid, but suddenly this sense of entitlement like she is above me or smarter and can do what she pleases. What is an appropriate punishment? I am my wits end with this. Please don't lecture me that I should be happy I don't have a druggie kid or something, I am very pleased this is the least of my worries. But what do I do to stop it? Advice of experienced mom with older teens, this is my oldest??
