When will I get TX title to used car with Colorado title bought in cash?

I just purchased a used car in Texas but the title is from Colorado. I now find it odd because the car is from Colorado and the title is not in his name? He did give bill of sale and took us to get the car registered. I am confused because he said something to the effect of having to get the car under his name first then to me??
